Committees

The Club’s success is largely dependent upon the members’ understanding, support, and participation in committee activities. Following is a brief review of these committees and their primary functions:

Charitable Endeavors
This committee researches charitable organizations that are recommended for consideration by HWC members prior to the April meeting. Selection of charities to be supported in the coming year are made by the Board and then presented to and voted on by the members.

Ways and Means
This committee is responsible for raising Club revenue through a variety of projects and events. All funds contributed to the selected charities come from the efforts of this committee. It is vital to the Club’s success that all members support and attend these fund-raising events.

Programs
During the summer months, the Program Committee develops ideas for programs from members’ suggestions and then secures speakers and programs for each meeting. The program schedule is finalized at the August Board meeting. Suggestions may be submitted to the Program Chairwoman until May of each year.

Public Relations / Website
This committee interacts with the print and electronic media on the Club’s behalf. This includes writing and sending press releases, photographing Club events and hosting media representatives at Club functions to increase the community awareness of HWC and its activities. Website:
Maintain, update and edit the Heathrow Women's Club website.

Hospitality
This committee will be made up of members who are familiar with the goals and ideals of the HWC. These members will interact on a one-on-one basis with new members to welcome them and familiarize them with club activities. This interaction can include, but is not limited to, bringing new members to meetings, sitting with new members at the luncheon and introducing them to other members who may have similar interests. This committee will act as a general community resource and will continue to assist new members until they feel comfortable on their own. This committee also hosts two “new member teas” – one in the fall and one in the spring.

Newsletter
This committee creates, prints and distributes a monthly periodical for all HWC members. The NEWZ is the best way to keep abreast of Club and community activities.

Social
This committee organizes social activities for HWC members and their spouses. This committee always welcomes ideas from the membership for these events.

Membership/Yearbook
The Yearbook Committee coordinates all Club information, including the member address and telephone directory, program and event topics, dates, and committee rosters. The Yearbook is distributed each fall and is a valuable tool for each member throughout the year.

Telephone
Members of this committee receive phone calls from HWC members to make reservations for the monthly luncheon meetings. In addition, the committee will make phone calls as necessary to obtain or dispense information and assist committee chairwomen with their work.

Focus
The Club occasionally requires problem solving, opinion gathering and feedback from the membership regarding issues that become pertinent to the well-being of the Heathrow Women’s Club. The ad hoc committee provides this service, as well as long-range planning, and rewrites policies and procedures whenever necessary. It is also responsible for compiling a membership questionnaire each spring.
